The Mental Health Counselor develops, promotes, and facilitates mental health and social service activities that support students in managing barriers that will impede their educational success. This position blends collaboration and consultation with colleagues on and off campus, as well as other support resources with non-clinical and clinical student case management, short-term counseling, program coordination, systems development, and leadership in addressing factors that contribute to student attrition and improve student success.
This position will primarily serve the Williamson Campus with occasional travel to other Columbia State campuses and counties in the service area.
Essential Functions:

<li>Provide collaborative, layered student advocacy in support of the overall retention and student success initiatives of the College and assist students in foundational mental, emotional, and relational health in support of student academic pursuits.</li>

<li>Provide short-term professional counseling services for students, including assessment, limited individual and group therapy, crisis intervention and triage, and case coordination and referrals.</li>
<li>Be active in community networking and work closely and cooperatively with other community organizations and college personnel for program development, growth, and implementation.</li>
<li>Ensure that social service and counseling resources are utilized at assigned Columbia State locations.</li>
<li>Coordinate with Disability Resource Center staff, other internal departments, and external agencies as it relates to student advocacy, counseling, and social services support.</li>

The Upward Bound Counselor is responsible to the Director of TRIO Programs.&nbsp; The primary purpose is to recruit, counsel, and advise high school students who are first generation college and/or low-income students about college prospects.&nbsp;
Upward Bound is an academic pre-college program designed to prepare and motivate high school students to attend and complete the college or university of their choice. DSCC’s Upward Bound program currently serves Halls High School, Lake County High School, Obion County Central High School, and Peabody High School.
Duties and Responsibilities:

<li>Participate, along with other Upward Bound staff, in the recruitment of participants that are first generation and/or low income.</li>
<li>Develop and complete the Individual Prescription Plan for each participant and update as needed.</li>
<li>Conduct weekly sessions at the schools to meet with the participants.</li>
<li>Monitor and record each participant’s academic progress including grades and ACT scores.</li>
<li>Monitor participant’s behavior and attendance at school.</li>

Working Conditions:
Travel is required.&nbsp; The counselor must be able to work nights and weekends while traveling with the group.&nbsp; Working conditions will include office work, weekly travel to schools, and group trips to a variety of settings such as museums, theaters, college campuses, recreational venues, etc. Must be willing to travel on the week-long summer trip that requires supervision of students at all times. During the summer, the counselor has to be able to keep up with a high paced program that requires working in the heat, going to different events, and extensive walking.

<li>A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in counseling, education, or related field from a regionally accredited institution. Master’s degree preferred.</li>

Submit updated department syllabus prior to the first day of class. Regularly check College email account and department mailbox. Respond to emails/messages within 48 hours, except on weekends. Complete all required reports, such as attendance, Early Alerts, student progress reports, grade submissions, and administer and return surveys and student outcome assessments by the deadlines. Submit final grades for each semester by the deadline established by the Registrar. Comply with all College and TBR policies and guidelines.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field Current industry certification Three years of related industry experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Master's degree in Healthcare Administration or Business Administration with a concentration in Healthcare Administration ICD and CPT coding experience Two years’ college level teaching experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of and/or experience with a variety of instructional delivery modes, including synchronous and asynchronous online teaching. Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a diverse student, faculty and staff population. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
Rate of Pay: $650.00 - $740.00 per credit hour
